Welcome to the Mercury Northwest Website
The purpose of Mercury Northwest (MNW) is to provide training, a common meeting ground, and infrastructure resources for licensed Amateur Radio Operators. In the past, it has been true that the majority of MNW members are also members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Membership in MNW is voluntary and is open to all interested individuals.
It is important to note that Mercury Northwest is not owned, directed, operated by, or is a program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mercury Northwest exists and operates independently and simply extends its offer of service to members of the LDS Church and others with common interests.
Our primary service area is Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, Western Alberta, and Alaska.
Mercury Northwest Newsletter
The latest Mercury Northwest newsletter is now available. Thanks to Bob Sturtevant, AD7IL, for putting this together for us.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) Requirements
It is recommend that all members take and pass the following courses to meet the NIMS requirements. Most all of the Emergency Communications Agencies (such as ACS, RACES, ARES and even the Red Cross) require anyone who is participating in any emergency situation to have taken and passed these courses. The courses and tests are available on the Internet at the addresses shown:
IS 100.b, Introduction to Incident Command System http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/IS100b.asp
IS 200.b, ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/is/is200b.asp
IS 700.a, National Incident Management System, An Introduction http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/is/is700a.asp
You will need to register so that the system can keep track of you and issue your completion certificates. The certificate will be issued on line, so you will need to print it out or save it to your local machine.
You don't need to pass these courses to be a member of Mercury Northwest. These links are provided as a resource and to help MNW members be better qualified to serve in their Wards, Stakes, and Communities.
